Algoma University, set up in Sault Ste. Marie in 1965, acquired autonomy in 2008 from its starting points as an offshoot school of Laurentian University. Algoma has since developed to remember scholastic programming for Brampton and Timmins, alongside an extending on the web presence.

As an educating centred college, Algoma gives a scope of degrees and authentications traversing the human sciences, sciences and expert disciplines. The Sault Ste. Marie grounds, situated on the site of the previous Shingwauk Residential School, gives an extraordinary, generally rich setting for a culturally diverse local area where Anishinaabe (First Nation, Métis, and Inuit), Canadian, and worldwide understudies gain from each other in a feeling of fellowship and regard.
